Selecting The Right Lift Chair Or Love Seat For Your Needs

by Sylvia Turner

While it can be hard to admit, there are times when everyone needs a little help getting up and moving. If you have an injury or condition that makes it difficult to get out of your chair or off the couch, a lift chair, recliner, or love seat could be the perfect solution for you.

Lift Chairs

A lift chair is a chair or recliner that is built with some additional features so that the chair can raise up and forward on its base to make it easier to get in and out of. Often people with back problems or injuries that make it hard to support themselves find it hard to get out of a chair. This can also be the case as you get older, but a lift chair means not lifting your weight to get up.

As the chair rises and moves forward, the electric motor and lift mechanism raises you to a near-standing position and eliminates the need to try and pull yourself out of the chair. For some people, a lift chair could be the difference between independent living and having to have someone there is help them up and down throughout the day.

Reclining Lift Chairs

Like the standard lift chair, lift recliners help you get in and out of the chair but offer the features of a traditional recliner as well. Often someone with a back injury may need to shift the chair's position to sit without pain, so adding the reclining option may help you stay comfortable longer.

The lift recliner can also have electric controls to recline the chair as well. Traditional recliners require the user to pull a lever or use their legs to bring the chair back to an upright position, but these power recliners do all the work, so all you need to do is push a button and let the chair do the work for you.  Add a heat and massage unit to the chair or recliner, and the result is a chair that can have a significant difference for people who can't get comfortable any other way.

Couches and Loveseats

There are lift chair companies that also manufacture couches and loveseat with lift sections on them. These furnishings allow you to have average-looking furniture for people to sit on but still offer the mobility assistance you need in your home.

Often, the lift chairs, recliners, and other furniture look like any other chair or couch, so people can not tell the difference. Some companies will even put custom fabrics on these furnishings for you so you can match a chair and couch and create a cohesive look in your living room.
